Suzanne Dorsey, Ph.D., Assistant Secretary, Maryland Department of the Environment

Suzanne Dorsey has a doctorate in Coastal Oceanography and masters in Marine Science. Her background includes research science, grassroots environmentalism, education, and public service. She emphasizes connections to the environment and works to find ways for all people to relate to and then appreciate the environment. An ecologist, she focuses on the interconnectivity between different habitats and between humans and habitats.

With over 30 years of experience working towards conservation milestones, Suzanne has learned that trust relationships are the key to success. By listening to and respecting differing views we forge partnerships to craft solutions that secure clean air/water and land. As science sheds more light on the complexity of systems, solutions need to be crafted that address multiple environmental outcomes while supporting a robust economy. Now at MDE Suzanne works with water and science administration on Bay Restoration, and on major issues that require cross-agency collaboration on climate resiliency.
