J. Thomas Sadowski, Vice Chancellor for Economic Development, University System of Maryland (USM)

Tom has 30-years in economic development, with projects exceeding $10 billion and 50,000 jobs; including the 2005 BRAC win for the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground and numerous headquarter, R&D laboratory and industrial projects throughout Maryland.

His role at USM is focused on venture creation, tech commercialization, industry and government partnerships, workforce development, and management of USM’s $10 million early-stage venture Momentum Fund. Prior to USM, he served as President & CEO of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore.

He is a lifelong Maryland resident, proud husband, father, and UMBC graduate. He is active on numerous boards responsible for business, education, economic development, and public health.

USM is a global, public higher education system consisting of 12 institutions and 3 regional centers employing over 18,000 full and part-time faculty. USM has more than 170,000 enrolled students and an annual operating budget of over $5.8 billion. USM institutions conduct groundbreaking sponsored research, valued at $1.4 billion annually.
