Used Oil & Antifreeze Recycling

On behalf of the Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland Environmental Service operates a statewide program that makes it easy to dispose of used oil and antifreeze.

Did you know that the used oil from one oil change can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water? That’s a year supply for 50 people. The used oil program is free to use and good for the environment. Illegal dumping of used oil and antifreeze harms our environment.

Featured Project: Used Oil Recycling and Scrap Tire Programs

Since the 1980s, Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has managed a statewide Used Oil Collection Program, providing an environmentally safe disposal option, free of charge, for residents who change their oil at home. Beginning in the 1990s, MES added used antifreeze collection to many locations. In 1994, MES began cleaning up illegal tire dumps through the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Scrap Tire Program, reducing negative impacts on the environment.
