MES is assigned tire stockpiles for remediation by MDE.  MES coordinates with local, state and federal regulatory agencies to plan site work in a cost effective and environmentally responsible manner.

MES hires and manages the operations of the general contractor in tire removal and site restoration activities.  All work must comply with permits and licenses issued by regulatory agencies.  Tire hauling must be performed by a licensed scrap tire hauler and disposal must be at a licensed scrap tire acceptance or recycling facility.  For a list of licensed haulers and recycling facilities in Maryland, click here.

Since the beginning of the Scrap Tire Program in 1995, MES has removed tires from 22 stockpiles involving the disposal of more than 2 million tires and site remediation.  The updated list of remaining tire cleanup sites in MAryland may be viewed in the Maryland Scrap Tire Program Annual Report, available on the MDE website

MES is able to assist with the disposal of scrap tire stockpiles.  To learn more about scrap tire stockpile cleanup services available through MES, or to report a stockpile in your area, please contact James Woods at 410-729-8528.
