Compost
for Turfgrass

In the
beginning, the Earth replenished her own fertility
through the natural decay of plant debris and
other organic matter. This composting process
converted organic materials into rich compost and
provided beneficial microorganisms which aided in
the absorption of nutrients by plant roots.
Modern
gardening practices have included the removal of
organic debris from our lawns and gardens as well
as the over use of chemical fertilizers. These
practices have disrupted nature's cycle and
burdened our lawns and gardens with unproductive
soils.
For
more than 20
years, ComPRO® has been the compost
product of choice for professional landscapers,
contractors, and homeowners for topdressing turf,
seeding and sodding.
Due to a variety
of circumstances, the production of the original
ComPRO® compost was discontinued in the
spring of 1999. The over-whelming response from
the public to reproduce ComPRO® sent us to
the University of Maryland Turfgrass Research
Facility to conduct studies that would enable the
remanufacture of ComPRO® especially suited
for turf applications.
A special blend
of yard trim compost has been prepared to
reproduce the magical results once achieved
through the use of the original ComPRO®.
This product will improve soil structure and
aeration, increase the soil's water holding
capacity, microbial action and nutrient
availability, loosen clay soils, and reduce
nutrient run-off. This adds up to beautiful and
vigorous lawns and gardens. We are confident that
you will be delighted with this product.
Lawn
Establishment
ComPRO® should be used as a soil
conditioner and enhancer when establishing a new
lawn. On bare earth, use eight bags per 100 square
feet of area. Spread evenly, and mix or rototill
to a depth of four to six inches. Rake the area
smooth and seed or sod on top of amended soil.
Roll the finished area and water the area until
the new grass is established.
Lawn Renovation
ComPRO® is excellent for renovating
established lawns. Dethatch and core aerate or
verticut the lawn prior to topdressing. Apply
three bags per 100 square turf spreading the
ComPRO® lightly and evenly. Gently rake
the area to filter the ComPRO® down
between the grass blades. Overseed, roll if
possible, and water the area until the new grass
is established.
Gardens
When preparing garden area, mix eight to ten bags
of ComPRO® per 100 square feet into the
garden soil to a depth of four to six inches.
ComPRO® should be used whenever garden
soil is being prepared for planting.
ComPRO®
compost is an excellent soil conditioner and
enhancer for all types of soils. Please test your
soil to determine your specific lime and
fertilizer requirements.
