MES works with
MDE to maintain adequate scrap tire
recycling capacity in Maryland. An
affordable disposal market with adequate
capacity is required to safeguard our State
from illegal tire dumping. MDE is
responsible for issuing and enforcing scrap
tire licenses for hauling and recycling.
In 2006, 86 percent of tires entering the
scrap tire market in Maryland were recycled.
To ensure that scrap tires continue to be
recycled at a high rate, MES strives to grow
existing markets and develop new markets for
