To keep Maryland's economy moving, the Maryland Port Administration's dredging program keeps the shipping channels of the Chesapeake Bay, the Patapsco River and Baltimore Harbor safe and clear for cargo vessels.
Maryland Environmental Service supports the Port with dredged material management services. We plan, oversee construction of and operate dredged material placement sites, including Hart-Miller Island, Poplar Island, Cox Creek and Masonville.
These sites become more than an environmentally safe location for dredged material; MES Environmental Restoration Services transform these sites into wildlife habitats, natural recreation areas and environmental education centers for Maryland citizens.
We offer wetland and forest stand delineation, restoration and creation. Our staff provides environmental assessment and remediation, natural resource management and outreach and educational services.
