2011  Midshore II opens on or before January 1, 2011

MES has completed the procurement documentation and commenced the competitive bidding process to select the General Contractor to construct the first phase of the Midshore II Regional Solid Waste Facility.  MES anticipates awarding the initial construction contract during the Spring of 2009.  The duration of the initial construction phase is anticipated to take 13 to 14 months to complete, depending upon the weather conditions encountered during that period.

Once the facility is substantially complete during the Summer of 2010, MES will test systems and begin placing select solid waste materials, known as the "fluff layer" in the initial landfill disposal cell.  Full operation of the new regional landfill to accept solid waste from Caroline, Talbot, Kent and Queen Anne's counties will begin January 2011.
