Part
of an 80-year solution for solid waste
management, the Midshore Regional Solid Waste
Facility in Easton, Md. centralizes the waste
disposal needs for Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne's
and Talbot County.
These Eastern Shore counties have formed the
only regional partnership in the state of
Maryland. Constructed in 1991, Midshore I is the first
waste facility to operate under the agreement.
Midshore II currently under design will be
located in Caroline County and is in the design
and contracting
stages now. It is scheduled to begin accepting
waste in the year 2011.
The existing site provides disposal of solid
waste, household hazardous waste and pesticides.
It also recycles used motor oil and
antifreeze, scrap tires, auto batteries and
textiles recycling consolidation,
wood waste processing, refrigerant recovery and
solid waste transfer operations.
Last year, the facility accepted more than
125,000 tons of solid waste and transferred over
30,000 tons for disposal out offsite.
