Part of an 80-year solution to solid waste management, the Midshore Regional Solid Waste Facility in Easton, Md. takes care of the waste disposal needs for Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne's and Talbot County.

These Eastern Shore counties have formed a unique partnership where each county hosts a solid waste facility for 20 years. Constructed in 1991, the Midshore facility is the first waste facility to operate under the agreement. Midshore II will be located in Caroline County and is in the design and permitting stages now. It is scheduled to begin accepting waste in the year 2011.

The current facility provides disposal of solid waste, household hazardous waste and pesticides. It also is involved in used motor oil and antifreeze collection, recycling consolidation, wood waste processing, refrigerant recovery and solid waste transfer operations.

Last year, the facility accepted more than 120,000 tons of solid waste.
