Leafgro® "It's a Natural" because it's
100% Organic!

Leafgro® is a superior quality compost used extensively by the landscape industry and homeowners as a source of humus for soil improvement. Leafgro® is an outstanding example of recycling at its best. By composting leaves and grass clippings that would have normally been disposed of in a landfill, the Maryland Environmental Service converts organic wastes into a valuable resource.

The composting process begins in the fall of the year when leaves are collected and transferred to yard waste composting facilities where they are placed in windrows. In order to accelerate the decomposition process, the rows are turned and shredded on a regular basis. Beginning in the spring, grass clippings are added and the turning and shredding continues. After the composting process is complete, it is dried, screened and sold under the registered trade name, Leafgro®.

Listen to Mother Nature:

"When I call for rich organic compost, Leafgro® meets my standards every time. Think about it. My Earth has always replenished itself through the natural cycling of plant matter and other organic materials. This process provides nutrients and micro-organisms necessary to enrich the soil. Unfortunately, the practice of removing organics from our lawns and gardens has disrupted Nature's cycle and burdened our environment with damaged soils.

It's time to return to basics. Build soil fertility the way I, Mother Nature intended. Add Leafgro® organic compost to all your landscape areas - 'It's a Natural'. Leafgro® will replenish vital organic matter and beneficial micro-organisms essential for the cultivation of beautiful and productive gardens and landscapes. For years I've watched Leafgro® delight nursery growers, landscape professionals, and home owers with the gift of glorious gardens.

Nature needs a helping hand, use Leafgro® - 'It's a Natural'."

Planting Trees and Shrubs

Leafgro® should be used as a soil conditioner and enhancer when planting trees and shrubs. To do so, dig the hole twice the size and only as deep as the root ball of the plant. Mix well equal parts Leafgro® and existing soil. Place two inches of mix in the bottom of the hole and place the root ball in the hole. Fill the area around the root ball half way with mix and tamp firmly. Water thoroughly. Fill the remaining mix to ground level tamping firmly. The top of the root ball should be slightly above ground level to allow for settlement. Water all plants after planting.

Lawn Establishment or Reseeding

On bare earth, use eight bags per 100 square feet of area. Spread evenly and mix or rototill to a depth of four to six inches. Rake the area smooth, and seed or sod on top of prepared soil. Roll if possible and water.

When Reseeding your lawn, apply the lawn seed, then spread 1/4" of Leafgro on Top. Then roll and water.

Bed Preparation

When preparing bed areas for flowers, perennials, ground covers and vegetable gardens, use eight bags per 100 square feet of garden area. Mix to a depth of four to six inches. Leafgro® should be used when creating new beds or rejuvenating old ones.

Potting Soil

Leafgro® makes an excellent outdoor potting soil when you combine equal parts Leafgro®, vermiculite and perlite.

Leafgro® is available in convenient 1 and 1½ cubic foot bags and bulk by the cubic yard. Call Maryland Environmental Service for a Leafgro® distributor in your area.
