First constructed in the 1950's, the Darlington Water System had long served the needs of the Darlington community. However, like any system, time and use took its toll and in the mid-1990s the system was desperately in need of repairs and upgrades.
Harford County approached the Maryland Environmental Service about purchasing the system and improving it to ensure that Darlington residents would continue to receive the same high level of water service they were used to.
The Service is a non-profit state agency that has a great deal of experience in the construction and operation of water systems.
The Service agreed to the purchase, and in 1998 began to retrofit the 50 year old water system. The Maryland Department of the Environment helped fund the retrofit through a grant and the Service provided the rest of the money necessary to modernize the system. |
