Waste Management Services This Division was established to provide waste management services with emphasis on facility operations, maintenance and oversight. In particular, the division provides solid waste disposal, materials recycling, yard waste composting, compost bagging, wood waste processing, refrigerant recovery and scrap tire management services. The Division is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Midshore Regional Solid Waste Facility in Easton, MD. Midshore is the states first and only regional solid waste facility, serving Caroline, Kent, Queen Annes and Talbot counties. Solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste, pesticides, used motor oil and antifreeze collection, recycling consolidation, wood waste processing, refrigerant recovery, and solid waste transfer operations are performed within the facility. Also, the Division performs operations oversight for the Garrett County Solid Waste Facility. The Division operates and maintains the Montgomery County Materials Recycling Facility. The recycled materials processed and marketed from the facility include glass, plastics, aluminum, tin, newspaper and residential mixed paper. Associated external activities include the recycling of cardboard, magazines, household hazardous waste, mattresses, textiles, phone books, refrigerants, tires, and building materials. In addition, the Division manages the Public Unloading Facility which accepts household waste and recyclables from residents. The Division operates and maintains the states two largest yard waste composting facilities for Montgomery and Prince Georges counties. The yard waste compost brand Leafgro® is produced and marketed from both facilities. Yard waste collected from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard counties are consolidated at a yard waste transfer station in Dorsey, MD and transported to the Prince Georges county facility. The Division bags the yard waste compost brand Leafgro® for Montgomery County. In addition, the Division provides wood waste processing to various municipal, county and state jurisdictions through the portable tub grinding service. The Divisions scrap tire program manages the scrap tire beneficial use demonstration and stockpile clean-up projects, under an agreement with the Maryland Department of the Environment. |
