The Environmental Dredging and Restoration Division was established to provide services in the field of dredged material management with emphasis on planning, operation of dredged material placement sites, environmental monitoring and use of dredged material as a natural resource.

The Division is divided into four sections: dredged material planning and management, environmental science and monitoring, operation of dredged material containment facilities, and dredged material technical support.

MES has operated and maintained Hart-Miller Island, Baltimore, MD, a 1140-acre man-made dredged material containment facility since 1984.

Other services include planning, design, and environmental studies regarding dredging needs and placement options; tributary dredging projects permitting support, and extensive environmental monitoring .
