MES recognizes that recycling is a necessary element in effective waste management. We employ a recycling staff which provides a full range of recycling services to the state and to local governments including program planning and implementation, facility management and operation and the marketing of materials.

MES currently operates the Montgomery County Material Recycling Facility and assists the County with various recycling programs. MES also operates the yard waste composting facility in Montgomery County near Dickerson, Maryland. Nearly 67,000 tons of yard waste are received at the facility annually, Retail demand for Leafgro ® , our composted leaf product, frequently exceeds supply.

MES operates and maintains the Baltimore County Resource Recovery Facility (BCRRF) and the Western Acceptance Facility where approximately 382,500 tons of the County's residential and commercial solid waste is handled annually. A 40 ton per day material recycling facility at BCRRF is operated by MES.

In Prince George's County, Maryland, MES processes 70,000 tons of yard and wood waste.
