Environmental Service is seeking Apprentices and/or Experienced Licensed
Water/Wastewater Operators for LaPlata, Maryland.

Apprentice
This
3 year program includes on-the-job training, an independent study program &
professional in-house mentoring & coaching. The Apprenticeship Program is
designed to provide, upon completion, a career as a Certified Licensed Operator
of Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems. Starting pay is $12.74 per
hour with excellent benefits. During the 3 year period, there will be periodic
pay raises based on motivation & performance. Successful graduates of the
program will be offered Operator positions with Maryland Environmental Service.
Minimum
Qualifications:
High
School Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license with less than 6 points and
have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Experienced licensed
Water/Wastewater Operators
Minimum
Qualifications:
High School
Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license with less than 6 points and the
ability to lift 50 lbs. Must also have the appropriate operator’s or temporary
certificate(s) from the Maryland State Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems
Operators and one of the following:
- Completion
of the Maryland Environmental Service’s Operator-in-Training Program in
accordance with MES policy 8.03.
- Twenty-four
months of experience, acceptable to the Maryland Environmental Service, as
an operator of water, wastewater or industrial wastewater treatment systems,
and a passing score on the operator certification examination accepted by
the Maryland State Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators for a
category and class of treatment works to which the Maryland Environmental
Service has assigned the employee.
- Twenty-four
months of experience, acceptable to the Maryland Environmental Service, as
an operator of water, wastewater or industrial wastewater treatment systems,
and possession of a valid operator’s certificate, in any category and
class of treatment works, from the Maryland State Board of Waterworks and
Waste Systems Operators, or the operator certifying authority in another
state.
- Twelve
months of experience, acceptable to the Maryland Environmental Service, as
an operator of water, wastewater or industrial wastewater treatment systems,
and possession of a valid operator’s certificate from the Maryland State
Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators for a category and class of
treatment works to which the Maryland Environmental Service has assigned the
employee.
NOTE:
Successful completion of the core
self-study programs that are required under the Maryland Environmental
Service’s Operator-in-Training Program may be substituted for up to 18 months
of the required experience at the rate of one program for six months of
experience.
