All MES facilities are subject to a variety of environmental laws and permits. The environmental laws which apply to various MES activities include:

q       The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (“RCRA”), which applies to both hazardous and municipal solid waste

q       The Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act (“EPCRA”)

           Rivers and Harbors Act

q       The Clean Air Act

q       The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (“CERCLA”), including the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (“SARA”)

q       The Toxic Substances and Control Act (“TSCA”)

q       Hazardous Materials Transportation Act

q       The Safe Drinking Water Act

q       Maryland law related to tidal and nontidal wetlands

q       Maryland Critical Areas Law

q       Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Act

q       Maryland law related to water appropriation

q       Maryland law related to construction in flood plains

q       Maryland law related to purchasing preferences for recyclable materials

q       Pretreatment standards imposed by local governments for discharge of wastewater to municipal wastewater collection systems
